A Heart To Remember

Do you know anyone who could use a little reminder of how loved they are? This little heart is just the ticket.

You will need:
US size 2 DPNs x5 (or circular needles if you prefer magic loop)
Approximately 7g of Fingering weight yarn in your choice of colors
Cotton, wool, or polyfill for stuffing
Tapestry needle
Stitch markers

Apex:
To begin, cast on 4 stitches.
Rounds 1 &2: K 2 rounds in i-cord.
Round 3: Kf/b x4 in i-cord. (8 sts)
Round 4: K8 in i-cord.

Divide stitches evenly across four dpn’s and join for working in the round.
Place a removable stitch marker into the base of the heart at the beginning of round.
Using a stitch marker on your dpn’s may fall off as you work, so I prefer to place a fixed marker. You can move this marker up your work as you go.
Round 5: K 1 round.
Round 6: [Kf/b, K1] to end of round. (12 sts)
Rounds 7 & 8: K 2 rounds.
Round 9: [K1, Kf/b, K1] to end of round. (16 sts)

Round 13: [K1, Kf/b] to end of round. (24 sts)

Rounds 22-24: K 3 rounds.
Round 25: [K4, Kf/b to end of round. (48 sts)
Rounds 26-28: K 3 rounds.

First Wing:
Place 24 sts on a holder or scrap yarn.
Divide the ramaining 24 sts evenly across 3 dpn’s and join for working in the round.
Rounds 1-2: K 2 rounds
Round 3: [K6, K2tog] to end of round. (21 sts)
Round 4: K 1 round.
Round 5: [K2, K2tog] to end of round. (16 sts)
Round 6: K 1 round.
Round 7: [K2tog] to end of round. (8 sts)
Round 8: K 1 round.
Round 9: [k2tog] to end of round. (4 sts)
Break yarn and using a tapestry needle, thread the tail through the remaining 4 sts.
Fast off.

Lightly stuff the apex of the heart and the first wing.

Second Wing:
Pick up the reserved 24 sts and divide them evenly across 3 dpn’s.
Work the second wing following the instructions for the first wing.

Finish stuffing and stitch up the hole between the two wings.
Weave in ends.
Give your newly-fashioned heart away to anyone who needs a reminder that they are loved.
