I am obsessed with feathers. Not their softness, fluffiness, or practical uses - although they are soft, fluffy, and useful- but rather because they contain some of the most beautiful color palettes and fascinating geometry found in nature. I find it a fun challenge to mimic these awe-inspiring palettes and patterns in knit stitches, and linen stitch just so happens to nail practically perfectly the polka-dotted feather pattern of guinea fowl. I didn’t set out to name this pattern Guinea Linen, but it was the working title, and I couldn't think of a name that better suited.
Guinea Linen is a large right triangle shawl that takes advantage of the magical properties of three-color linen stitch with the colors weighted in 2:1 proportions. I used a softer black and white combination of Steadfast and New Hope to realistically capture the colors of guinea fowl, but any highly value-contrasting pair of colors would work well. (Think light and dark.)
