Who says you can’t mix stripes and prints?  Drift is a bias triangle shawl that incorporates single-row stripes paired with a flower-like variation of the spool stitch.  It’s the seventh in my series of projects using the concept of Assigned Pooling.  Assigned Pooling occurs when a change in stitch and texture is assigned to changes in color within a skein of variegated yarn.  Stockinette Stitch is assigned to the main color to create a striped backdrop for the spool stitch assigned to the accent color.

Color Note
Drift needs two colorways that have highly contrasting background colors to make the stripes stand out. Base your choice on these background colors before you consider the accent colors. The spool stitch is not dependent on a particular length of accent color making it a versatile stitch for different types of variegated skeins. Assigned Pooling is a way to embrace color pooling by letting the color changes have control of the texture pattern.
